The McDowell Key Club (MIHS & MCD), MIHS Student Council, McDowell Sr. Student Council, and the McDowell Challenge Club (MIHS & MCD) are coordinating our efforts to help raise awareness for our student body, faculty, staff, and parents on the grief of children and teenagers. We will provide educational information all week and show our support for one another on Thursday November 20th by sharing friendship beads throughout the day. The Caring Place has asked all of us to show our support for grieving students by wearing BLUE on November 20th.

November 20th has been designated Grief Awareness Day. In an effort to raise awareness for the needs of grieving children and their families, Walnut Creek Middle School students are raising money to support the Highmark Caring Place. An assembly will begin at approximately 2:30 to celebrate this successful campaign.

This is an Aids benefit concert designed to raise money and awareness to support the Aids cause in Africa. This concert was organized by members of “Exposure” which is a student run group with the mission of raising awareness of world events. It is open to the public, free of charge however, donations appreciated

Ridgefield Elementary is having their annual Turkey Bowl at Rolling Meadows Lane, 32nd Street to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. We will be collecting non-perishable items during the Turkey Bowl. Cost is $5.50 and non-perishable food item per person. Public is welcome to join this event.

The McDowell Key Club is collecting gently used children’s books for The Refuge and SafeNet as part of our annual celebration of National Education Week. The public is invited to participate in this event.

The Rough Cut Screening is a documentary created by the organization “Invisible Children”. Their goal is to raise awareness about the conditions in the lives of the child soldiers in northern Uganda. This showing is approximately 1 hour and is open to the public. It is free of charge although donations are welcome.

The Millcreek Township Board of School Directors proudly announces that Mr. Michael T. Golde has been appointed the next superintendent of the Millcreek Township School District. Mr. Golde currently serves as the superintendent of the Chichester School District in Boothwyn, PA (Delaware County), a position he held since 2003.
“After a thorough search, we are very pleased to make this announcement,” said Michael Palermo, vice president of the board of school directors. “Mr. Golde presented bold leadership skills and a deep commitment to public education. Mr. Golde has a collaborative leadership style that will involve all the stakeholders in the district in developing the vision for our future. That will serve our students and staff very well,” Palermo added.
Mr. Golde previously served as a high school principal with the Chichester School District, an assistant principal with the Lower Merion School District, an assistant dean and physics/math teacher with the Valley Forge Military Academy and physics teacher at Canisius High School in New York.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in Physics and a masters’ degree from the State University of New York. He obtained his educational leadership credentials from Immaculata College. Mr. Golde will begin his service as the district’s superintendent on January 12, 2009.
