St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital announced today the successful completion of Math-A-Thon at Westlake Middle School in Erie, PA. Math-A-Thon, now in its 29th year, is an educationally based fund-raising program in which students obtain sponsors for the number of math problems completed in special workbooks provided for students in grades K-9. The program is sponsored nationally by Six Flags Theme Parks, who provide free passes to their parks for every student raising $40.00 or more.
The students who participate in the program learn to do more than just math problems; they also learn the importance of helping children who are less fortunate than themselves. Through the Math-A-Thon, they are able to help provide a future for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Children with more than 200 forms of cancer and other catastrophic diseases find hope at St. Jude. Since its founding in 1962 by the late entertainer, Danny Thomas, the survival rates for most forms of pediatric cancer have risen dramatically. In fact, today more than 70% of all children with cancer will survive their bout with the disease. St. Jude fully credits these successes in treatment to the generous support of people around the world, including the students at Westlake Middle School.

(Erie, Pennsylvania) The Administration and Board of School Directors of the Millcreek Township School District are pleased to announce Mark Soboleski as the McDowell High School Head Varsity Football Coach. Soboleski has the energy, talent, skills and ability to work collaboratively with others, which were primary characteristics sought by the 16-member search committee. According to Superintendent Dr. Dean Maynard, Soboleski is the unanimous recommendation selected from a pool of eighteen candidates. “For a candidate to be unanimously recommended by a committee of 16 is an amazing feat and a tribute to Mark,” said Maynard.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to coach the McDowell Football Team. I graduated from McDowell in 1987 and began teaching and coaching here in 1994. I want to thank the Millcreek community for this opportunity and the confidence that they have in me. I plan to work everyday to produce a team that this community can be proud of,” said Soboleski.

For almost twenty five years the art faculty of the Millcreek Township School District has created collective shows of their work. They’ve been featured in exhibits at the Millcreek Education Center, Kada Gallery, Mercyhurst’s Cummings Gallery, the Stonewall Gallery at Campbell Pottery, and at Gannon University’s Schuster Gallery.
Like their college counterparts, the Millcreek art faculty are not only committed to being high-quality educators, they are also dedicated to their development as visual artists. It is the only group of professional artists in the area, employed by a public school system, that regularly exhibits its artwork.
