PennFuture Announces Millcreek Township School District’s Asbury Woods Nature Center: Winner of 2008 Green Power: Turn It On! Award The PennFuture awards recognize individuals and organizations for their work in promoting clean renewable energy in Pennsylvania each year. PennFuture’s Green Power: Turn it on! Campaign is a multifaceted, multiyear campaign aimed at building the renewable energy market in the state. The award is in recognition for the installation of a green roof at the Asbury Woods Nature Center.  A green roof is a living layer of soil and plants placed above the waterproof membrane on flat or gently sloped roofs. Alpine plants such as sedum that can withstand the extreme cold, heat, drought and moisture on a roof are used. The green roof at Asbury Woods is strategically located on the barrel vault roof over the exhibit wing, the flat roof over the adjacent administrative wing and main entrance to the building.  Continue Reading »
