There are 4,209 ribbons on display, one for each American life lost in service to our country in the war in Iraq. As we enter this festive season this display allows us to reflect on the contribution made by those who gave their lives in service to their country.
Display is managed by the Erie Peace Initiative group and was assembled by three McDowell students as part of their Tolerance 101 class project. Stephanie Turak, Lauren Vitale and Kristina Krasowski assembled the display in a 24-hour time span.

The Vocal Ensemble and McDowell High School will present their annual Holiday Concert in the newly renovated Little Theatre at MIHS. This concert is open and free to the public.

Every Chestnut Hill classroom is adopting a patient from The Golden Living Center - Western Reserve on W. 54th St. The students will earn money from chores, good deeds done at home, etc. and a gift will be purchased by the class for their adopted patient. On Monday, December 15, at The Golden Living Center, the staff and students will bring joy to the patients by presenting their gifts. Santa and Chestnut Hill’s mascot, Chester will be on hand to help with the festivities.

Live On The Air! A 1943 USO Holiday Radio Broadcast featuring songs, dances, comedy, and a special “show within the show ” that will get everyone in the spirit of the Holidays! Featuring such songs as “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”, “White Christmas”, “Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy”, “I’m Old Fashioned”, “Happy Holidays”, “I’ll Be Seeing You”, and many more favorites from the era of World War II.
Cost is only $20.00 and includes a delicious dinner with your choice of chicken cordon bleu or stuffed pork chop served by the cast! Featuring the Performing Arts advanced classes under the direction of Michael Malthaner who also wrote the show.

The McDowell Key Club (MIHS & MCD), MIHS Student Council, McDowell Sr. Student Council, and the McDowell Challenge Club (MIHS & MCD) are coordinating our efforts to help raise awareness for our student body, faculty, staff, and parents on the grief of children and teenagers. We will provide educational information all week and show our support for one another on Thursday November 20th by sharing friendship beads throughout the day. The Caring Place has asked all of us to show our support for grieving students by wearing BLUE on November 20th.

November 20th has been designated Grief Awareness Day. In an effort to raise awareness for the needs of grieving children and their families, Walnut Creek Middle School students are raising money to support the Highmark Caring Place. An assembly will begin at approximately 2:30 to celebrate this successful campaign.

This is an Aids benefit concert designed to raise money and awareness to support the Aids cause in Africa. This concert was organized by members of “Exposure” which is a student run group with the mission of raising awareness of world events. Ridgefield Elementary is having their annual Turkey Bowl at Rolling Meadows Lane, 32nd Street to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. We will be collecting non-perishable items during the Turkey Bowl. Cost is $5.50 and non-perishable food item per person. Public is welcome to join this event.
