Spring Meeting Minutes
May 16, 2006

Melissa Leonard called the spring meeting of the ShareNorthwest Regional Library Group, held at Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit #5 on May 16, 2006, to order at 9:00 AM. 48 people were in attendance. Melissa introduced our host Karen Baldwin. Karen then introduced Dr. Marjorie Wallace who will become Executive Director of the IU on July 1. Liana Gray made a motion to approve the minutes and treasurer’s report from the fall meeting. Marion Bennett seconded. Motion carried.

Committee Reports:
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) - Lynda Knauff - No report

Electronic Communications - Peter Genco

School/Public Liaison - Gail Myer - No Report

Professional Organizations-Peter Genco
1. AASL Fall Forum in October in Rhode Island, topic - assessment
2. PSLA notes discussed later in meeting
3. IASL Lisbon Portugal 2006 - Tiawan has a proposal for 2007 - Erie 2008?
4. International School Library Day 4th Monday in October.

Inservice Committee - Lynda Knauff No Report

Professional Development - Julie Boam
Governor’s Institute on Information Literacy will take place this summer.

Director’s Report - Karen Baldwin - March 27 Regional Director’s Meeting in Harrisburg.

1. State looking into funding Wiki’s for librarians to communicate and share information.

2. Alan Simon Access Notes:
A. if a library uses Millennium for its circulation system the state will provide all support and all maintenance.
B. they are still working on multiple access entries.
C. if you are sending a full file transfer of records don’t let your vendors send adds as well. The duplication is causing problems.
D. Public librarians are encouraged to send their reference and/or tech people to Access training.

3. New for September:
A. New interface for manual updates
B. New summary button
C. Change for kids search to more appropriate subject headings.

4. Ill Notes:
A. New pop-up calendar feature on VDX system.
B. Upcoming feature- terminate button to cancel a request.
C. 24% increase in Ills - Do not send requests for multiple copies!!!
D. State library working on a digitization project
E. IDS membership fees
membership fee for the current year
package fee for the previous year
F. IDS user manual has been updated
G. Bills for Access PA went out in April 1
H. IDS needs new carrier currently using UPS - exploring other options.

The business meeting adjourned at 10:15 AM. Afterwards, there was a PSLA update by conference attendees, discussion about ShareNW webpage by Peter Genco. In the afternoon there were three separate breakout sessions and door prizes. Spring Meeting will be hosted by Saegertown High School librarian - Betty Litke.
