TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ACCESS THE HOMEWORK BOARD  OR ANNOUNCEMENTS THROUGH THIS WEBSITE. AFTER TODAY, THE ONLY WAY TO ACCESS ANNOUNCEMENTS AND HOMEWORK WILL BE THROUGH EDLINE WITH YOUR PASSWORD. PASSWORDS WERE MAILED OUT AND SHOULD BE RECEIVED BY TODAY.

The sixth grade boys basketball team defeated Fairview Thursday night 34-19. The boys record now stands at 9-5. They play the second game of a double header on Friday at Westlake. Good luck to the RAMS basketball team tonight.

Do you want to do something fun this weekend? Come cheer on the Trojans! The first annual McDowell vs Prep Fan Frenzy is being held this Saturday at McDowell High School’s South Gym. What is the Fan Frenzy??? Using a large, 20 FT screen, the McDowell/Prep basketball game will be broadcast live. This is a party that you don’t want to miss as you cheer on the Trojans to a victory! The doors open at 6:30 PM on Saturday and will run until the end of the game. A $5 ticket entitles you to food, drink a game day t-shirt, and lots of fun and excitement. How do you get a ticket? You can simply show up on Saturday with your friends. Come out to McDowell’s South Gym and join in on the fun! All students will be required to use the South Gym entrance only.

Information regarding Middle School softball is available in the JSW office. Pick up a flyer if you are interested.

Tryouts for any 7th or 8th grade girl interested in playing softball for McDowell High School will be held on Saturday, March 7th, and Saturday, March 21st, from 1:00-3:30 PM at McDowell High School in the North and South Gyms.  If you are interested in trying out, please come to the office to pick up a flyer with complete details including the cost.

A reminder to any middle school student in 7th or 8th grade wishing to participate in boys or girls soccer - you must have a completed sport physical prior to the start of the season. Sport physical packets may be picked up in the office.  Once you have received your sports physical, you can give the entire packet to your soccer coach. If you had received a sport physical through school (at McDowell) last summer, then you will not need to receive another one at this time. Sixth graders DO NOT NEED a physical.

The 7th & 8th boys basketball team lost to Woodrow Wilson last night. The boys played extremely hard, but couldn’t pull it out in the end. The boys play at Westlake tonight at 4:00 PM. Come cheer on your team!

Any student interested in attending a Theatre Workshop taught by Mr. Malthaner and members of the high school Theatre Program on February 28, 2009 are asked to pick up an information sheet in the office. There will be activities in singing, acting, dancing and stage lighting for theatre productions. All who attend will also receive a free ticket to see the spring musical, Annie Get Your Gun.

We are still in need of artwork for the yearbook. Pick up a form from your teacher today and “Think Green!”

Monday will be the final day to access Announcements and Homework Board through this site.  Starting Monday,  all JSW information will be accessed through EDLINE.  If you did not attend the Edline Kickoff Night here, a letter will be sent to you giving you the full instructions and your personal password to start using this system.  It should arrive in the mail by tomorrow.

The after school tutoring program begins TODAY! All participating students and teacher tutors please report to the auditorium at 3:00 today for our program kick-offs.

A reminder to any middle school student in 7th & 8th grade wishing to participate in boys or girls soccer: you MUST have a completed sport physical prior to the start of your season. Eighth Grade Parent Information Night at MIHS is being held TONIGHT, January 21st, in the Little Theatre from 6:30-8:30.

TONIGHT IS THE EDLINE KICKOFF MEETING PARENT INFORMATION SESSION AT 7:00 PM IN THE AUDITORIUM. IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND THIS SESSION, PACKETS WILL BE SENT HOME SHORTLY CONTAINING YOUR PASSWORDS AND INSTRUCTIONS.

Attention Sixth Grade Songfest Singers:  Our music is in! Please make a point to see Ms. Stage sometime today to pick up your folder and have Ms. Stage sign your planner for our first rehearsal on January 22nd - Thursday - at 2:20 PM.

The 54th Street Players Stage Crew will meet in Ms. Sweeney’s room - Room #302 - for activity today.

There will be a Trojan Softball Skills Clinic at McDowell High School on Saturda, February 28, for all girls in grades 6, 7 & 8. The Clinic will be from 1:00-4:00 PM. This is limited to the first 60 girls to register. You may pick up a registration form in the office.  Any girls entering grades 6, 7 & 8 - there will be a Trojan Softball Summer Camp at McDowell HS the week of June 15th. Instruction will be by the McDowell Coaching Staff & players. This is limited to the first 100 girls to register. Stop by the office for more information and registration forms.

8th Grade Parent Information Night at MIHS will be held tomorrow - Wednesday, January 21, in the Little Theatre from 6:30-8:30. This is a great opportunity for both students and parents to ask questions about MIHS and how it will meet your needs. Please plan on attending with your student.

Attention all McDowell Girls Lacrosse Team Members: There is a change in schedule for practice this week. Practice will be held TODAY in the south gym at 7 PM. There will NOT be a practice tomorrow night. The regular schedule will resume on Friday, January 23rd.

The Sixth grade boys basketball team defeated Seneca yesterday in a hard fought battle by the score of 25-23. The boys record is now 8-5. They will play Fairview on Thursday at 6 PM at home and will play at Westlake this Friday at 5:15. Good luck boys and keep up the great work.

The 7th & 8th grade boys basketball team lost to Perry last night by a score of 44-34. The boys play again on Friday against Jefferson here at JSW at 4:00 PM.

Attention Geography Bee winners - the school wide competition will be held on January 20th in Room 312 in the morning following announcements.

There will be information available regarding a Trojan Softball Skills Clinic, a Softball Summer Camp and information regarding Middle School Softball in the JSWilson office. If you are interested in any of these activities, please pick up a flyer today.

Be sure to plan to attend the Edline Kickoff meeting to be held here at JSW on Tuesday, January 20th at 7:00 in the auditorium as well as the 8th grade parent information night at MIHS to be held on Wednesday, January 21 in the Little Theatre from 6:30-8:30.

Congratulations to the concert bands and string orchestra on their performance at last evening’s Wintermusic Concert.  Band and orchestra students are reminded to bring study materials to rehearsal today.

The JV Trojan hockey team needs your support. The boys will be on the ice facing league rivals Fox Chapel. This game will be fast and physical. Face off, at the JMC Ice Arena, will be 7:15 today.  Come out and support your team!

8th Grade Parent Information Night has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 21, 2009, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM in the MIHS Little Theatre. This is a great opportunity for both students and parents to ask questions about MIHS and how it will meet your needs.  Eighth grade students should plan on attending this night with your parents.

Our Edline Kickoff meeting - Parent Information Session - is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20th at 7:00 PM in the JSWilson Auditorium.  Flyers have been sent home with students with more information.

There was a silver hoop earring found in the auditorium following the Talent Show last week. If this is your earring, please stop by the JSWilson office to claim.

LOST AND FOUND:  We have SEVERAL items of miscellaneous jewelry and two pairs of glasses that have been in our lost and found in the office for quite awhile.  Also, there are pairs of boots, winter coats, hoodies, etc. in our general lost and found box outside the nurse’s office.  Your child may be missing one of the items.  Consider stopping by the school office to see if any of these items belong to your child.  Announcements are made the day that items are found, but to date no one has claimed many of these items.

They play next on Wednesday against Perry School at Grover Cleveland at 4:00 PM.  Come out and support your RAMS!

Cheerleading practice will be held today in the gym from 3:00-4:30.

The Edline Kickoff Meeting - Parent Information Session - will be held on Tuesday, January 20, at 7:00 in the JSWilson Auditorium.  All parents are invited to learn about Edline and receive your personal account information. Edline will become your sole source for information about JSWilson and your student. Among other things you will be able to access your student’s grades, homework, calendar of school events and messages from the principal.  Please plan to attend.

Attention to all students invited to PSSA after school tutoriing: all slips are to be returned to Mrs. Lasher ASAP. Tutoring begins on January 22nd.

McDowell Softball Middle School Girls Softball - Spring 2009 - Open to all Millcreek Girls in Grades 7 and 8. Girls in grades 7 and 8 are eligible to play and tryouts for the teams will take place on Saturday, March 7, and Saturday, March 21, at McDowell High School in the North and South Gyms. Time for the tryouts will be from 1:00-3:30 PM. Paperwork can be picked up in your school office or contact one of the coaches listed to get a form sent to you.  AS OF 2:55 PM THE STUDENT COUNCIL DANCE IS STILL ON FOR THIS EVENING. PARENTS ARE ASKED TO USE THEIR OWN DISCRETION WHEN SENDING STUDENTS TO THE DANCE.  

We still need artwork for the yearbook. Ask your teacher for a form and “think green”. Submit your artwork in the yearbook envelope on the whiteboard in your pod area.

Reminder for all cheerleaders to bring their uniforms to school on Monday. You will be practicing in the cafeteria before the game.

The JV Hockey team has been busy this week and last with lots of ice time. In a tournament over the Christmas break the boys won against St. Ignatius by a score of 4-3. Anthony Lecce and Pete Hlusko scored a pair of goals each. Drew Greaves was in net with 22 saves. McDowell lost against two other tough Cleveland teams.  This week McDowell travelled to Pittsburgh. Trojans faced North Allegheny who sit in first place in the PIHL League. With 38 saves in net, Budda Pickens helped the Trojans win by a score of 2-1. Goals were scored by Josh Cunningham and Bryan Chiffon. Trojans will have two tough games next week. Keep working hard Trojans!
