Apprenticeship Program Opportunity for Graduates

McDowell High School has received notice of a Joint Apprenticeship Program for Heat and Frost insulators and Asbestos Workers from Pittsburgh, PA Local Union No. 2. Interested 18-year-old, high school graduates or students who have earned their GED should stop in the student services office at McDowell to see the full posting and check to make sure they meet the requirements. Completed applications must be postmarked on or before August 7, 2009.

Attention students signed up for October Washington trip: there are only a few remaining seats for the trip. All deposits must be paid by June 9th. As we return in the fall, you will be asked to pay the remaining balance and make selections for roommates. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Hoderny or Mrs. Cerullo.

Sports Announcements:

A reminder that there will be a brief meeting for any student interested in playing boys soccer next year on Monday, June 8th at 7:45 am in the McDowell south gym. Off season schedules and plans will be distributed at this meeting.
There will be open gym for boys basketball players today after school in the south gym from 2:45-4:15.

Mr. Rankin: There is a 10 minute extension to homeroom in both buildings again today for end-of-year locker cleanout.

The Pep Club would like to thank everyone for their participation in the Walking for the Cause last Friday. The McDowell student body raised $17,200.00. Each organization received $8,600.00.

The response to the 2009 DC trip has been overwhelming, and we are looking forward to providing you with a memorable, exciting and educational weekend. As it stands today, we have about 8 remaining seats for the trip. All deposits must be paid by June 9th. When we return in the Fall, you will be asked to pay the remaining balance and make selections for roommates.

There will be an informational meeting of the Model United Nations in room 213 at the high school this afternoon, at 2:35. This is a role playing activity in which students take on the roles of delegates to the United Nations. The countries assigned to McDowell to represent for the fall are Lybia and Sudan. All interested students, both former and new, are invited to attend and learn about this fall activity. That is 2:35, today, room 213 at the high school for more information about joining the 2009 Model UN.

There are waste receptacles available today for locker clean out. Announcements should be short - homeroom will NOT be extended.

Mr. Rankin:  announcement regarding students who have not requested guest tickets for graduation - list will be posted next to the seating chart on the main office windows.

Seniors are reminded that all library books are due TODAY. Also, any senior student who has medication in the nurse’s office is asked to pick the medication up at the end of the day today. Medication that is left will be discarded.

There is a list of students who still need to turn in power points to Mrs. Sitzler for Independent Studies. The names will be posted right outside the main office. The deadline is TODAY.

ATTENTION: members of the Speech & Debate Team that ordered team clothing, the clothing is order is in. Please stop Coach Caugherty’s room to pick up your clothing as asson as possible.

 Attention all students who drive to school:  on Monday, June 1, the parking spaces along the soccer field will be blocked off.  They will be needed for a prescription in the auditorium for Mr. Cannata’s classroom.  Mr. Cannata apologizes for the inconvenience.
