Students Collect Pennies for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Wednesday, Apr 16, 2008

As a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, students at Walnut Creek Middle School were encouraged to collect spare change over a three week period.  This money helps the society cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s disease while improving the quality of life for patients and their families.  These forms of cancer are the number one killer of children age 5-15, so our Community Council decided that our school community could do something to change that.  Special events were planned during the fundraising period.  As a finale to the fundraiser, a “Battle of the Sexes” basketball game was held in the gym to raise additional funds. pie-006.jpg     Darcie      Student 1 Brandon    Girls    Boys

Mr. Tarasovitch, Assistant Principal, was emcee for the game, while our Principal, Mrs. Moseley, agreed to take a pie in the face from students who had purchased a ticket.  The Olive Garden, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and our Community Council would like to thank everyone for their support.  Over $2,000 was raised for this event!  For more information about Pennies for Patients, visit www.schoolandyouth.org.  You can help make a difference, too!

Walnut Creek Food Drive

Monday, Mar 03, 2008

Congratulations to Walnut Creek Middle School for collecting 1,315 pounds of food during our recent school-wide food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Our school received a special thank you from Karen Seggi, Executive Director, Second Harvest Food Bank, which states “By helping Second Harvest,  you are also helping other non-profits who rely on us for a continuous supply of food.  Making sure no one goes hungry in our eleven county region is community-wide effort.  We can’t do it without your help”.
