This week we will continue with the Respiratory System.
Mr. Bob Tarkowski from Gannon’s Respiratory Therapy department will visit on Tuesday.
Disorders quiz #1 on Thursday.
Extra Credit: Using the following terms, write in correct order the pathway of air during respiration.
Alveoli, Bronchioles, Larynx, Nasal Cavity, Pharynx, Primary bronchii, Trachea.
Include in your response the answers to the following questions:
1. What occurs in the alveoli?
2. What do doctors mean when they say someone has suffered a “collasped lung”?

We will NOT have class this week due to PSSA testing. You do, however, need to complete the following HOMEWORK for Tuesday, March 24th, our next class:
1. Read The Muscular System packet. You already have this packet.
Review page 6.01 (Types of Muscle Tissue) and 6.02 (Muscle Structure) and 6.11/6.12 (Naming Skeletal Muscles).
Read 6.05, 6.06, 6.07 (How Muscles Produce Movement 1, 2, and 3) and highlight important facts (words appearing in italics usually a good clue).
Read 6.08 (Motor Unit) 6.09 (How Muscles Contract) and 6.10 (Types of Muscle Contraction) and highlight important facts.
2. I will be checking for highlighted info as part of a homework assignment next Tuesday…so actually read it!!
EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES:
1. Coloring Sheets - you only have to color sheet #38 (face, head), #54 (posterior thigh), #56 (anterior thigh), and #57 (anterior and lateral leg).

Homework due Monday, March 2nd - signed progress reports.
Monday - we will review skeletal system in preparation for our test ON FRIDAY (this is a change!!). We will also begin the MUSCULAR SYSTEM.
HOMEWORK: Study for Vocabulary Quiz #6 - WE WILL TAKE THIS ON WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK (this is a change!!)
Wednesday - Vocab quiz #6; more on MUSCULAR SYSTEM…naming and locating muscles on the human body.

Homework due Monday: Digestive System take-home exam.
CANCER power point projects are also due today.
This week we will create our Human Body posters drawn to scale of all the systems we have studied this semester. You will be working in groups of four to accomplish this task Monday and Wednesday.
I will be available for extra help Monday - Thursday of this week afterschool in Room 117 until 4:00 p.m. Our final exam is Thursday, January 22nd.

On Tuesday, we will have a Nervous System test. You should look over your “By the end of this unit…” sheet, coloring diagram of the brain, and all note-taking outlines we worked on in class.
We will have Hamot Nurse Renae Hayes visit our class after the test is over.
There will be no vocab test this week.
Bonus hint: Know the saying we think of to help us remember the 12 cranial nerves!

There is no homework due Wednesday.
On Wednesday, we will talk about blood and learn to take blood pressures manually (not with a digital machine!)
HOMEWORK for FRIDAY: Signed progress reports retunred, Disorders quiz #4 and Blood Pressure crossword puzzle completed.
On Friday, you will complete disorders quiz #4 and take a partner quiz on Blood and Blood Vessels. Refer to your Cardiovascular “By the end of this unit…” yellow sheet to help you prepare for this test. Also, take good notes in class on Wednesday!!

On Monday, we will finish up the Cardiovascular System. We will review work from last Thursday as well as learn about the ECG or EKG and the PQRST wave. We will also have guest speaker, Kim Fitzpatrick, a nurse anesthesist come speak to our class.
HOMEWORK due for Monday: Cardiovascular review sheet.
On Wednesday, we will have Disorders quiz #3 as well as our Cardiovascular Test. Please look at the yellow sheet, “By the end of this unit I should be able to…”. You will need to label parts of a heart, recite the pathway of circulation, locate specific arteries and veins, and be familiar with terminology associated with the heart and it’s disorders. There is a lot of information so begin studying NOW!
Bonus question on the test Wednesday: why are the pulmonary arteries and veins different from all other arteries and veins in your body?

On Monday, Nov. 10th, we will continue researching and sharing about the Respiratory System via our jigsaw activity. You will receive your new disorders quiz schedule. There is no homework due for Monday.
On Wednesday, Nov. 12th, we will finish Respiratory System and wrap-up with guest speaker Mr. Bob Tarkowski from Gannon University’s Respiratory Therapy program. Homework for Wednesday, study for vocabulary quiz #10 (if you are not already exempt) and review “By the end of this unit…” sheet.
On Friday, Nov. 14th, we will take disorders quiz #1 followed by a short 35 point quiz on the Respiratory System. Again, study your “By the end of the unit…” sheet. BE ABLE TO LABEL THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM parts and differentiate between various disorders of the respiratory system. After the quizzes, we will begin the Cardiovascular System. HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY: STUDY STUDY STUDY for BOTH quizzes!!! New quarter, fresh start!
Bonus question clue for Respiratory quiz: Be familiar with the quantity of water vapor we breathe out per day and what we could fill with the amount of air we breathe out in our lifetime.

Homework due Monday: Muscular System handout, Part 2 completed. Due Friday: Signed progress report and parent conference form.
On Monday, we will review for the Muscular System test with Muscle Bingo. We will also begin library work on researching Skeletal and Muscular System Disorders. You will be preparing a power point on four(4) disorders to present to the class on Friday.
On Wednesday, we will have our Muscular System test. Please refer to the pink “What I should know and be able to do by the end of this unit…” sheet to help you study. Label muscles and study both muscular system note-taking outlines completed in class. Review Muscular System PACKET we read in class. We will finish researching disorders and finalizing power points for Friday.
Homework due Friday: signed progress report and parent conference form!
Vocabulary Quiz #9 is on Friday…we will give our power point presentations to the class on Friday to wrap up 1st quarter grades.
