MTSD Seeks New Position to Support College Preparations for McDowell Graduates Through the Support of The Jim Conner Foundation

Millcreek Township School District is honored and proud to announce a generous donation by The Jim Conner Foundation to McDowell High School to support students with college preparation success. Founded in May 1977 after the tragic death of Jim Conner, a McDowell High School Sophomore, The Jim Conner Foundation has served to provide opportunities to students who would strongly benefit from additional financial support as they approach their college careers. “By simply making a contribution to McDowell High School, whether it is with scholarships, programs, or advisors, the donation this Foundation provides will be 10 times larger than the donation itself,” Ms. Conner remarks.

The Jim Conner Foundation has announced a donation of $280,000 to Millcreek Township School District. The donation provides the District an opportunity to develop a new 4-year role, College Connections Advisor, exclusive to McDowell High School. This role will aim to provide assistance and support to current McDowell students throughout the college application process. Further, the College Connections Advisor will help navigate financial planning for each student, provide insight on college application strategies, and identify colleges that may best serve the student’s educational goals. “This is a phenomenal opportunity for our students to have additional support navigating the college admissions process from start to finish. The College Connections Advisor, funded by the generous donation of The Jim Conner Foundation, will equip students with the skills to evaluate collegiate choices and craft their personalized admissions strategy,” said Mrs. Moseley.

The donation from The Jim Conner Foundation will allow the district to offer a full-time role with a $70K salary, benefits, and up to $1,000 in any additional expenses incurred.
