Safety Staff Bio

Mr. Brian Duska, Safety and Security Administrator

Brian has 27 years’ experience in Information Technology while assuming various administrative and technical roles through the years. In addition to Public K-12 Education, Brian has also worked in the healthcare, manufacturing and sales industries. Brian is a graduate of Gannon University with a BS in Management Information Systems. Brian was born and raised in Erie and he currently resides in Millcreek with his wife. Both of their adult children went through the Millcreek school system and are both McDowell graduates.

Officer Nathan Spiker, McDowell School Resource Officer

Officer Spiker is employed as a police officer by the Millcreek Twp police department, and is currently serving as the McDowell School Resource Officer (SRO). Ofc. Spiker earned a bachelor's degree in special education from Slippery Rock University (PA) prior to pursuing a career in law enforcement. During his 11 years of employment as a police officer, Ofc. Spiker has spent the majority of his time in the patrol division responding to calls and investigating incidents. Early in his career, Ofc. Spiker acted as the DARE officer in Grove City, PA working with K-12 students. Ofc. Spiker's training is highlighted with a certification as a National School Resource Officer, as well as being a certified ALICE instructor. In addition to his school responsibilities, Ofc. Spiker continues to serve as a NTOA trained crisis negotiator for the Millcreek SWAT team. Ofc. Spiker was hired primarily to have a law enforcement presence at McDowell, to provide experienced input on improving school safety, and to investigate any police involved matters that occur at McDowell while ultimately keeping our students and staff safe. However, Ofc. Spiker also performs other day to day duties that include being a guest speaker in classrooms to address the topics of healthy relationships and dating violence, substance abuse, safe driving, and other subjects as requested by teachers. Ofc. Spiker is a positive role model that is available to our High School students throughout the day to meet with them about issues regarding safety, bullying or conflict resolution. Mr. Jim Rich, MIHS School Security Officer

Jim oversees all security operations for McDowell Intermediate (MIHS), by managing campus video surveillance, safety and security training, and enforcing security protocols with students, teachers and staff. Prior to joining the Millcreek School District, Jim was a Columbus (OH) Police Officer for many years and was Director of Operations for a corporate security firm in San Francisco, CA. He also served as a security advisor and consultant for Element One marketing in San Diego, CA.

Jim received his B.S. from University of Charleston (WV) and his M.A. from Marshall University (Huntington, WV).
