Grade Specific Documentation

ASBTV is coming back “on the air!” Starting Monday, March 30th, we’ll be broadcasting on our YouTube channel and we want to hear from you! What have you been doing during our time off? What have you learned? We want YOU to become a student teacher! Show off your skills and teach us something new! Give us a lesson on telling time, math skills, or share a book report on your latest good read. Maybe you learned how to bake, sew, ride a bike, code a computer, make slime, or draw something! Maybe you’re a master of handstands, great dance moves, how to throw a ball, or shoot a basket? TEACH US!

In addition, we’d love to hear if you’ve found a way to help someone during this time. Are you sewing masks or making cards for people in nursing homes? Maybe you found a way to bring someone good cheer. Please make a video and show us your very special acts of kindness! If you prefer, you could also send a photo with a written summary and our ASBTV hosts will share for you.

Please send a video, around 2 minutes or less, to Mrs. Trapp, preferably in iOS software, via google drive:

trapp@mtsd.org

As always, you can still find ASBTV on YouTube, just search for Asbury Elementary. Here’s the link:

Kindergarten will be inviting all their students to join the Kindergarten Google Classroom Monday morning, April 6th, along with directions on how to log into Google Classroom and how to access lalilo and happy numbers. We will spend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Spring Break answering any questions to make sure everyone is ready to go on April 16th.

In the meantime, your child should continue to do 20 min a day on abcmouse and read a book a day on Epic until Spring Break, or during if your child so wishes.

On April 16th, all kindergarten students will be expected to spend 15 min a day on Lalilo and 15 min a day on Happy Numbers, along with reading a book a day on Epic, which will all be accessible all within Google Classroom. Your child's teacher will be monitoring their progress daily/weekly.

Thank you,

Kindergarten Team

Hello Kindergarten Parents: We hope you are all doing well. I wanted to review my plan for intervention moving forward. A few learning platforms will be available for your student. I am hoping you can participate in all that can be offered.

  1. Virtual lessons: I will be offering virtual lessons for students through Zoom. The lessons will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00-11:30. The lessons will be an opportunity for me to continue with reteaching and teaching new phonics skills.

The students should have a little “Tool Box” to participate. If they could have paper/white board or chalkboard-anything to record an answer and pencil or crayon. I will be asking them to show me their responses. I have created power points and will screen share my power point presentations. My lessons will follow the same format as school. The students will be very accustomed to the routine but the format will definitely look different. I will alternate with review material and new. If needed, I will repeat a lesson to reteach if the concept is not grasped. My goal is mastery.

2. Nessy: Everyone has received their Nessy login. Please have your child login and start the placement test. The first time Nessy is played, the “Explore Nessy” video will explain the navigation menus. When students complete activities, they are rewarded nuggets and can use the Nessy nuggets for their monkey. After the video has played you will see the Nessy Islands. The program is structured into ten island levels of 100 lessons. To begin with, all the islands are open. Any game can be played but no progress data will be saved.

To find an appropriate starting level, students should play the ‘Nessy Challenge’ game. This assessment will set 5 lessons as learning targets. The assessment will set a baseline result for all future progress. The game report will compare previous and current results. I want the students to play the NESSY CHALLENGE Game on Monday to find an instructional level.

I will be sending the Zoom link out tomorrow for the week. Finally, I am considering taping the live zoom lessons and sharing them to our group after we completed as a review or for students that may have missed the live lesson. Please let me know if you have concerns about taping the live lessons as we move forward.

Many thanks to you for all you are doing! I saw many children started Nessy – I hope you are enjoying the lessons. I have attached a little cheat sheet for parents about the navigation. It is hard to know how it is going on this side of the computer.

Our weekly schedule will look like this

Monday – Nessy on own

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- virtual lesson/live at 11:00 am

Friday- Nessy on own

Hello Kindergarten Parents I wanted to reach out and check in. I am looking at the next planning phases for continuing education for intervention. I will look at rolling this out after our spring break. As I have a final idea of how I will be delivering intervention and instruction, I will reach out to you with that information so we are all ready. Don’t worry… I will not frustrate you or your child. We are all in this together and we will take it slow until we get used to a new routine. I will be looking at a few platforms to keep your child motivated and make it easy for you, the parent.

Next week, I would like to check in with my students, say hello and do a story with them. I have attached the invitation. You will need the link below and information to log in. You will also need to have Zoom downloaded on your device.

Dear Second Grade Families,

I hope you all had a nice weekend in the sunshine! I see that almost all of you got online last week, and had a little fun with our new online learning plan. I can see what is being done on my end, and can tell which students log in and to which sites each day. Some of you were great with getting on each day to complete the assigned tasks, but some need to try harder to login each day and complete your work.

I think it goes without saying, that being in a classroom all together is the most effective way to learn. But for now, we are going to try our best to continue with some 2nd grade skills online. Attached you will find the plan for tomorrow's distance learning. We are now beginning Quarter 4 and work will now count towards 4th quarter grades. I can see and keep track of the assignments being done online and some work (if it tells you to) will need to be submitted to me. I am only an e-mail away if you have questions. We are all learning the system together, so hopefully it runs smoothly this week.

Reminder: Spring Break begins this Thursday, April 9th-Wednesday, April 15th. So, we only have the first three days this week, and Thursday/Friday of next week to complete online learning assignments.

Good Evening Third Grade parents I have attached the next assignments for my intervention groups. The schedule I develop will remain the same moving forward. The plan includes one week of reading with 2 scheduled Zoom meetings. Then, a week of writing scheduled with 2 Zoom meetings. The activities will cover the “3 read strategy” we practiced in class. In addition, it will also include the a writing strategy I had introduced and was modeling with the students. I have attached the article for the next activity. The article will cover both reading and writing activities. Our zoom meetings will be scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 am. The purpose of the Zoom meeting is to provide a check in, practice/share together and model skills as necessary.

It would help if the students had the following at each Zoom meeting:

- Article assigned

- Pencil

- Highlighter

- Paper

- And the daily assigned work (which is attached and in small manageable pieces)

I do not expect them to hand anything in but do expect them to practice the skills with me. They were all doing really well with the reading strategy, identifying the structure of the paragraph with topic sentence and details and answering the level 1 questions (basic recall). We were beginning to focus on the higher level inferential and connection to the text questions.

Please let me know what you need from me. I will be sending the Zoom invites out tomorrow but wanted you to mark the calendar and have students start the article tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing you at the ZOOM.

Hello Grade 3 families

I wanted to reach out and check in. I am looking at the next planning phases for continuing education for intervention. I will look at rolling this out after our spring break. The current comprehensive enrichment plan runs through Tuesday, April 7th. The article on cell phone use and questions/answers are due on April 7th. You can answer the questions on a google doc and submit to me.

Moving forward, I will be using the same format with the article. I have chosen this format because it mirrors our classroom routine. I will be adding a zoom meeting for discussion – possibly a pre and post. Once I have a final idea of the platform/format, I will reach out to you with that information so we are all ready. Don’t worry… I will not frustrate you or your child. We are all in this together and we will take it slow until we get used to a new routine. I will be looking at a few platforms to keep your child motivated and make it easy for you, the parent.

Next week, I would like to check in with my students, say hello and take the opportunity to do an Q and A on the article, Kids Should Have Cell Phones in School. Attached is the invitation for a Zoom meeting. You will need the link below and information to log in. You will also need to have Zoom downloaded on your device.

Please join me if your child is interested. It will be my first attempt as a host. Great opportunity for trial and error.
