Moving to Instruction
Dear Families of Grandview,
As you may be aware, the Governor has extended the mandated closure for all Pennsylvania schools indefinitely. Since the stay at home/shelter in place order is in effect until 4/30/20, we will now be planning to move into Phase 3, Planned Instruction.
Here are some informational items for our move to Phase 3, Planned Instruction. This week, we will continue with Phase 2 (Comprehensive Enrichment and Review). Friday, 4/3/20 will be the final day of Quarter 3 as well as the final day of Phase 2. On Monday, 4/6/20 will be the first day of Quarter 4 and our shift to Phase 3, Planned Instruction. All students will have graded daily work to complete for their teachers. At the elementary level, we will focus our instruction on English/Language Arts and Math. We will not be grading Science and Social Studies for Quarter 4. Information regarding specifics for each homeroom teacher is located at the link to the right. If your child receives special education services, information from their teachers is posted on each grade level menu. Aside from grade-level specific information, you will also find pages for our Specials classes, Tier 2/3 Reading Program, ELL Program, and our school counselor. We recommend visiting all of the pages that pertain to your child's normal educational programming.
We will still be following the school calendar with our spring break from 4/9-4/15/20. Online planned instruction will resume on 4/16/20.
If you have technology needs, the district will be offering one Chromebook and charger per household to families in need of technology devices. Parents must pre-register online via a Google Form in order to receive a device. The form is available on the mtsd.org web page under the COVID-19 banner. The district will not be able to fill any orders without the pre-registration form completed in advance by the deadline, Thursday, April 2, 2020 at noon (12:00 PM). This is a one-time distribution opportunity for the health and safety of our essential personnel. The centralized pick up will be at MIHS on Friday, 4/3/20. Parents will drive up to the pool door entrance and present their child’s name for pre-registration verification. Staff will give a bag containing a Chromebook, charger, and an informational packet to the family. Families will not receive equipment if they are not pre-registered. If you or a family member is ill or experiencing any symptoms, please do not come. Instead, please contact me to discuss your individual situation. Our pick-up will be from 8-9:00 am.
For those students who do not have a printer for PDF assignments, our advisement is to read the assignments that are posted online and write the answers down on a piece of paper with a pencil. Be sure to have folder to organize the completed work. This hybrid option offers another level of accommodation for students with different technological needs. If you do not have access to the internet, Intermediate Unit 5 has provided a comprehensive link below to assist in gaining access. You can access that link here: https://www.highspeedinternet.com/resources/internet-guide-during-coronavirus-outbreak
During Phase 3, Planned Instruction will begin on 4/6/20 and will include grading. If you have specific questions about grading, please reach out to your teachers or myself. We will be flexible for students/families as this is a new process for all of us and it will take time and patience to establish a working routine. However, by working together as a team we will all be able to work together towards the same common goal.
