Understanding the Pre-K Enrollment Process

Enrollment is on an application and acceptance basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment. Please see the enrollment process details for what to expect and how to successfully enroll your student upon acceptance into the MTSD Pre-K Program.

Enrollment Process Details

  • Fill out the online Pre-K Application through the Google Form. Be sure to fill out all required responses and review your answers for accuracy.

  • Once the online application has been submitted, directions will be emailed to you at the email address provided in your application. You will need to complete these two questionnaires and return both of them to Sara Grutkowski

    Your Pre-K application is considered complete when the online application and the two questionnaires have been received by the Pre-K Program Office.

  • If you would like to be considered for financial assistance, please fill out the Financial Assistance Application. More information can be found on the financial assistance page as well as the Financial Assistance Application, which can also be filled out using the button below.

    Your Financial Assistance Application is considered complete when the application is filled in and submitted with the appropriate income verifications.

  • If your application has been accepted and approved, MTSD Pre-K will reach out to you at the email you supplied on your application. At this time, you will have the opportunity to move forward in the enrollment process. Follow the directions provided in the acceptance email.

  • Upon accepting your child’s spot in MTSD Pre-K, you will need to fill out mandatory forms before enrollment can be finalized. This information will be emailed as attachments to you, with directions on how to complete them.

  • In the same email from MTSD Pre-K noted in step 4, there will be a link to register your accepted Pre-K student in the MTSD Student Information System. Use the link to complete your child's registration in the MTSD Student Information System, called Infinite Campus.

    If you need help, you can call 814.835.5300 ext. 0 to make an appointment to come in and use our registration kiosks. You will need to bring the required documents listed on our registration page: Register Your Child Now

    Please Note:

    • The registration system will say “K-12” and this is correct, please still fill out this information for Pre-K.
    • There will be a section asking for proof of residency. Since MTSD Pre-K accepts non-Millcreek families, non-resident families can upload blank documents for this section to bypass the mandatory fill requirement. This is for Pre-K only and our team will review each application for accuracy.
    • This process is to ensure your student’s information and your information are available in our system. We use Infinite Campus for a variety of reasons throughout the school year, including important communication with families!
       

    Materials to have ready to upload:

    • Child’s Birth Certificate
    • Immunization list
    • Pre-K Child Health Report
    • Dental Screening or Care Form
    • Custody/Court Order if applicable
    • IEP if applicable
  • Once successfully completed, you will receive a confirmation email for your child’s MTSD Pre-K enrollment and his or her start date. At that point, your child will be successfully enrolled in MTSD Pre-K!

    Please note: enrollments occurring within 10 days from the 1st school day will result in a later start date for your child.

Application Review Timeline

Families can apply any time throughout the school year, but there are important deadlines for enrollment decisions for each new school year.

March 20 Deadline:

  • Any applications received by March 20th will be reviewed. Preference will be given to returning MTSD Pre-K families and families residing in Millcreek Township.
  • Award notifications for approved applications will begin the first week in April. 
     

April 17 Deadline: 

  • Any applications received by April 17th will be reviewed. At this time, families residing within all of Erie County, PA will also be considered.
  • Award notifications for approved applications will begin the first week in May. 
     

Rolling Applications:

  • Applications received after April 17th will be reviewed periodically until the program is at maximum capacity. 
  • Families will be contacted if a MTSD Pre-K placement is identified for them. 
     

Within each application window, completed applications are evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Priority will be given to children who are 4 years old, then to children who are at least 3.5 years old by September 1st.
  • Children must possess sufficient toilet self-help skills for the Pre-K classroom environment. They should be able to recognize and communicate their need to use the restroom, as well as demonstrate basic independence in using the restroom within a school setting.
  • The individual strengths and needs of the children will be considered to ensure that each classroom comprises a well-balanced group of learners. This approach aims to establish a well-structured learning environment that supports the needs of each student in the classroom.
