Gifted Program
The mission of the Millcreek Township School District is to provide a world-class education that prepares students to reach their potential as life-long learners and responsible citizens. Within our belief system we are committed to serving each student with the opportunity to participate in academic programs that are relevant and rigorous. The gifted program within MTSD is designed to meet the needs of those students for which exceptional cognitive, leadership and creative abilities are demonstrated.
How are Gifted Students Identified?
Gifted education program is offered to students who meet the PA School Code Chapter 16 eligibility criteria and is based upon exceptional cognitive ability, leadership skills, creativity, and other outstanding qualities. In addition to ability and achievement testing, a rubric is used to determine eligibility and to identify those students for whom a Gifted Individualized Educational Program (GIEP) will be developed.
Are Gifted Students Provided Advanced Curriculum?
A Gifted Individualized Education Plan is developed with goals linked to the state standards including a continuum of service offered. Cluster grouping, pull out sessions, and collaborative instruction within the general education setting for the provision of enrichment and acceleration are examples.
Gifted Support teachers serve as case managers for eligible students, collaborate with general education teachers for the provision of acceleration and challenge in various settings, and disseminate written documentation of progress towards goals.
